Google Street Maps Covers Under The Sea

Google said through this project, users can explore under the sea.

Google added panoramic pictures of coral reefs on Street View and allows the user to navigate under the ocean.

These images are collected by Cathlin Seaview Survey, a project to study the condition of coral reefs, including its impact on global warming.

Google said the move was done to help scientists analyze ecosystems and increase community awareness regarding the condition of the sea.

Map of coral reefs is also a breakthrough in a publicity stunt for Google amid increasing competition.

Google had previously published the underwater view through computer images but this is for the first time this company combines underwater images in Street View.

"We want to be a comprehensive source for the image so that everyone can perform exploration," said Jenifer Foulkes, marine program manager for Google to the BBC.

"This effort is the next step to bring the user to the bottom of the sea and give them an experience to see sea turtles, stingrays, sea urchins and fishes are wonderful," he added.

There has never been

Google engineers help this project however filming and editing was done by scientists with the funding from the Catlin Group, an insurance company based in Bermuda.

Scientists develop subsea equipment with three lens that is designed to capture high resolution images in low-light conditions.

The devices capture the image 360 degrees every four seconds a 24 megapixel photos with the force.

"The main reason for recording the environment around the coral reefs is to show to the world," said Richard Vevers, Director of the project.

"This project aims to record the coral reefs of the world, something that has never been there and it is very necessary. We have no historical record to monitor changes on a large scale, "he added.

"Scientists from around the world are now able to study coral reefs from a distance and can clearly see how the changes."

Previous research suggests pollution, destructive fishing practices and climate change are causing major damage marine life which flourishes in thousands of years.
